Ms. Pet is currently reading the book, Fantasy Made Flesh, by Deborah Addington. For anyone into Erotic Role Play, I highly recommend it. It's such a breath of fresh air. Yes, there are tons of books out there about the basics of BDSM, the activities, how to do them, the safety measures and a thousand and one checklists on the Internet. But truth be told....
This is the first book I've seen that focuses on creating actual scenes, with role playing: Pirate and Wench for example. If you are like Ms Pet, hyperactive, creative, etc. you'll probably find the first chapter a bit redundant and be rolling your eyes a bit. "You mean there are people out there who actually must do exercises to be allowed to be silly, play with crayons, etc.? What are they? crazy? Bwahahahahahha!
But I really recomend you read it through and go through the wonderful exercises in order she suggests. *grin* She deliberately writes in the tone of a Dom, "giving permission," etc. which makes reading the book itself an extra treat as I feel like I"m being ordered around by the author, which...I AM! LOL
The exercises are about different emotional and psycological issues. At first giving oneself permissions to play, to fantasize, and then move onto connecting with various erotic fantasies you have inside. After that, it moves onto exploring negotiation, from a role play perspective, using the best examples of negotiation I've seen yet, with examples also of unrealistic negotiations destined to cause more problems then they fix, etc.
It's been wonderful! Especially as this is one of Ms. Pets major kinks, much more then SM. Which, you know, I love the sensation, but I'm not really into being hurt, pain, suffering.
Now... If only I could find a book on Pet Play as well as one on D/S from a feminist or lesbian perspective!
Till then, what a BONUS this book has turned out to be. It doesn't look like much, I guess the cover, etc. has been deliberately designed to be as non-threatening and non-offensive as possible, so as to make it accessible to more people. But it's definately up there on the recommend list next to The New Bottoming Book and On the Safe Edge. And....
The author is a dyke! Or at least, she seems to be only using lesbian personal experiences. So BONUS, BONUS, BONUS! Good for both newbies and I bet even for old timers who haven't had a book specific to role play and scene negotiation around it I bet!
